Pretty dramatic! Releasing steam? Do they pump water down to a hot spot and then run the steam through a turbine to generate power?

We were in the interior at that point, so if there was salt, it was more mineral than from the coast. I've got another picture close up that shows giant tongue marks all over the back of the truck before I hosed it down.

Strange and maybe useful behavior! Do you suppose there might have been salt spray on your rig?

Thanks... Hazy atmosphere here at the north tip of the island due to emissions from Kilauea far to the south, but you can make out the opposite side of the valley at left. It's a very long steep descent; I went down a little way to see what it's like, but I'm not in shape for something like that.

Thanks, Doug. I wish I'd spent more time there. There's a few more images from the ice caves that I'll be posting with the 2010 set.
Pete.

Wow! This is spectacular. I like the restricted color palette and the lovely blues. The near-symmetry is intriguing, and the place looks magical...

Woodburn Oregon. I thought it was interesting to take a photo of other artists. They both have easels.

Nice! Skagit Valley? Are they both working on their own art, as I see a wooden tripod or easel on the other side of the figure at right.
