Dear All,
Has anyone tried to shoot with a D80 using one of the new Zeiss ZF lens?
I know that metering is not possible, but I wondered if anyone could share any experience.

Hey, silly follow up question here: can you get focus confirmation using manual lenses on the nikon dslrs? One of my nikon friends wants to know :)

Yes. Not sure about the D40 though.

How does it work? Do you keep the shutter half-depressed while focusing? And does it work with non-nikon lenses?
Sorry David, for dumping on your thread here...

Yes and yes.
It's called Electronic Rangefinder focusing and is on most (if not all) AF Nikons.
Doesn't really work with lenses slower than f/5.6.
Also works with AF lenses focusing in manual mode.
It's pretty much the greatest thing since sliced bread. It means you can use screens without focus aids with manual lenses.

Thanks again :) Now how about someone answering David's question!
I do not have a nikon.. I have a canon and use some manual leica lenses with it. The camera does meter with them, and aperture priority and manual modes work fine. I would think the Nikon does meter, too.. ?

Only the pro Nikon dSLRs (D1 and D2 series) and the D200 meter with non-AF lenses.

Probably a fairly exotic pairing.
I use various MF Nikkors on my Fuji dSLRs without metering and get good results.
Use Sunny 16 and check the histogram to make sure you haven't blown the highlights. Generally works well for me.
