Seller: chipmanp

Very Good transaction!

sold me a Sigma 24mm lens.. it arrived quickly and was exactly as promised.. it actually focuses faster on my D70 than the kit Nikkor lens

thanks Pete!

Cool. I love the optics on that lens, but the focusing speed being an improvement sure doesn't say much for the kit Nikkor lens :-)

Remember, it's tough to beat stopped down, wide-open it is tack sharp in the middle but soft in the corners (fun portrait lens), and it's a decent macro lens in a pinch.

Also, don't go straight to f8 for overall sharpness (independent of DOF) unless you light for shutter purposes. I found the sweetspot for sharpness to be about f16, where it was still very sharp in the center, and good in the corners. A great f22 lens in that it doesn't degrade in image quality as quickly as other lenses do at that aperature.

Enjoy,

Pete.

typo: "you need light," not "you light."

Are you going to post some pics with the Sigma?

sadly enough, I have only used it a couple times since you sent it.. and I don't remember any getting any shots that were interesting.. nothing due to the lens, just my artistic abilities weren't kicking in

on the other hand, I've shot about a dozen rolls of 35mm film with all my rangefinders in that same time.. I'll have to make an effort to get out with the Nikon/Sigma again.. it's not going to happen today, though.. torrential rain on and off since this morning

No sweat. My last post of a grass covered storage building in Iceland (B&W) was taken with this lens.

I need to get out myself though. I haven't done much of anything since Iceland. Too busy with converting a Mercedes Benz to run on vegetable oil, and every other excuse in the world while I miss the fall colors that are starting to come in.

I'll get out ther,

Pete.

Have you tried using it as a portrait lens? Try getting in real close on someone or something:
