Another TMR tip:

Some people are finding that the DMR will not function when shooting continuous mode with the R8. In some cases the DMR seems to be off completely yet the camera can take pictures. One of the main causes f this little problem is the firmware version on the R8. Leica will need to update the software on the actual R8 for it to work seemlesly with the DMR. This is common with older R8's.

I had that happen to me once (DMR shut off, but I could still take pictures). The DMR completely locked up ... it wouldn't even turn off automatically or manually. I had to remove the battery (even though the instructions say not to when the unit is on) ... it proved to be the only way of turning it off.

I have since installed the firmware upgrade and it has not happened since.

So the firmware upgrade is just a downloaded file and store it into the SD card? Is there any hardware upgrade on the R8 is required?

My R8 is an old version, Germany made, Serial no. 242XXXX.

The firmware update has to made by Leica. I had mine done, it was free of charge. I sent in my R8+DMR but it was away for a month.
You cannot go by the serial number to know whether it has to be updated.
