hello, are there Panasonic Lumix L-1 users in this forum, I would like to hear from your experiences & opinion.
I saw an offer for new one (with Leica 14-50mm lens): 800$, I tested it a bit and liked.
however camera's lens mount & what lenses are available, makes me wonder would it be that good deal after all. I might want to expand the kit in time...

from link: "L1 has a Four Thirds System mount" ..
after a bit googling: http://www.four-thirds.org/en/products/lense.html
not that bad. looks like Four Thirds is also an open standard.. :)

I don't own either, but I've played with them side-by-side and you might want to check out the Olympus E330. It's virtually the same camera (with more features) at a much lower price.

I don't know if the Leica 14-50 is available separately, but that would be a big factor for the Lumix vs the Oly.
The Lumix also has an actual shutter speed dial.
So really the DMC-L1 is about as close to a manual SLR with an aperture ring + shutter speed dial as you're going to get. $800- is quite a good price for this.

yes I especially liked the Leica lens, although its a bit big, sharp and fast IMO.
I have now dilemma, should I get L1 and sell my entry level EOS, or keep it and just buy nice used L-glass to its nose,
e.g. EF 28-70mm L
I gues future wise, sticking with EOS system would be safer.
Is the Leica 24mm f/1.4 Summilux available yet? That strikes me as an attractive reason to like the 4/3 system...

I thought I'd seen it somewhere, but only know I found it..
Leica Digilux 3 seems identical to Lumix L-1, including the lens type & mount, and sensor.

according to dpreview, Digilux 3 street price US$2499

looks like Leica R and Nikon F-mount can also be adapted to 4/3-mount.. have to confess am warming up a bit to L-1
4/3 has a shorter lens flange to sensor distance than other dSLRs doesn't it? And a huge diameter opening, so wouldn't it be adaptable to pretty much any other lens system? I'd think the real trick would be in maintaining some semblance of communication, mechanical or electrical, between body and lens.

I had manual focus Nikkor, Zeiss ZF and Leica-R lenses in my mind.. think its not that bad deal, to get digital sensor behind e.g. nice old Summicron-R. if I would try same in M-mount, I would have to choose RF-body either 2000$ Epson or 4000$ M8..
this L-1 deal I saw was in Panama airport, I fly through it in coming weeks again.. if its still there, perhaps it comes with me :D

have you considered EOS adapters for your alternative (non-EOS) glass: zuiko, nikon, zeiss T*, leica R? for example, i've used the oly wides (21/3.5 and 18/3.5) on my EOS bodies. you don't really need to invest in another body ... as you say, you have a lot of really interesting glass in mind which is adaptable to EOS.
